In a recent survey of Western herbalists, licorice ranked as the 10th most important herb used in wellness practices. An astonishing number of African, Indian, and Chinese herbal formulas (over 5,000) use licorice. Its first documented use dates back to the time of the great Chinese herbal master Zhang Zhong Zhing, about 190 AD, but it was certainly used for many centuries prior to this. The whole sticks and slices may be enjoyed as teas, chewed straight and are pleasant tasting.

Brewing - For the Licorice Tea

Heat 1 cup of water in a kettle or saucepan over low heat, and bring to a boil. Add 1 tbsp. of the licorice root tea to the boiling water and let the tea simmer on very low heat for about 15-30 minutes. Strain and pour tea into a cup and serve immediately hot or serve on ice.
